Detroit Repossessed Cars For Sale
Times are tough and there are lot of repossessed vehicles coming to market. In addition to the auctions listed below, you can also find great deals on good cars by calling the local credit unions. There are quite a few in Detroit. Many times these credit unions have vehicles they've had to take back as collateral on a defaulted loan. Often they do very little in the way of advertising these vehicles for sale, but if you call and ask if they have any auctions coming up, you might just come away with a really good deal.
Obviously it is important to do your homework when purchasing a repossessed vehicle. Some small amount of mechanical knowledge comes in real handy. At a minimum, be sure to check things like tread wear remaining on tires, look for obvious signs of leaks or corrosion, of course be sure the air conditioning if functional and don't forget to be on the lookout for rust - not all cars will necessarily be local.
Each auction has its own set of guidelines, but most will have a preview day or at least several preview hours prior to the auction where you can inspect the vehicles coming up for sale. Most will require a deposit on file to place bids. This is usually only a couple hundred bucks. Auctions happen fast, so be careful not to get caught up in the bidding. Find out if there are any professional car dealers at the auction and watch them.
Find out which cars they are interested in, those are usually the hot buys. You can usually afford to pay a little more than the dealers will because they have to resell the car and still make a profit.
